Wild Kratts and Homeschool

My daughters love Wild Kratts (PBS) and we spend a lot of time discussing the animal facts that they've learned from the show.

I never knew what a proboscis monkey was before I watched this show! Wow!

There's not a lot of "printable" information to use with the show...but here's a list of things I've found so far. My plan is to create some worksheets, lapbook ideas, and hands-on activities to combine with the show.

Printables from PBS

Wild Kratts Website - Raising Monarch Butterflies and Discovering the Senses

There are many available episodes on YouTube, so it's easy to watch these and gather your info before the kids get started.
Print out one of the cute Wild Kratts pages and use it for your notebook cover!

Things to think about:

Books - gather a short reading list that can accompany each episode. Visit the library online and reserve these books, then after you've watched an episode you can go on a short field trip to pick up the books and spend the afternoon ready and discussing.

Printables - search online for similar pages that would match each animal discussed. Print out or save the links to visit after watching.

Online - spend some time gathering sites that showcase the animal you're learning about!

Draw - draw the animals from each show. Create a notebook of all the animals you're learning about

Write - have a sheet ready for your child to write a brief description about the episode, animal, the problems Martin and Chris overcame, etc.

Scientific - science is all around us...if you can find a study in one of your home library science books, then match it up with the episode. There are many, many great books with little, simple, science experiments. (I will be working on creating a short list of experiments for you).

Field Trips - there are many small rescue centers and zoos that would love to have you visit them...research in your local area and find out if there are animals that match your study!

More Wild Kratts-related curriculum ideas coming soon! I'd love to hear your ideas too!

Check out this adorable Wild Kratts themed birthday party...love it!
